Ingredients:
3.5 cups flour
3.5 cups lukewarm milk, divided
dash salt
1½ cups raisins or currants
¼ cup candied citron (diced apple is better) (15 grams)
3 T melted butter
1 egg
1 oz (2 pkg dry) yeast w/ 3 T sugar

Directions:
Mix flour in bowl, add warm milk (save a little)
Add salt, raisins, apple, stir
Add melted butter and egg
Mix yeast with sugar and rest of warm milk
Add to rest of batter
Cover with warm, damp towel
Let rise 1 hour
Heat fryer oil 1/2 hour before cooking
Drop by spoonfuls into hot oil, turn to brown
Drain on paper towels
Dust with powdered sugar

I remember going "bummin" with my dad and once in awhile stopping at Jansma's Bakery and picking up a bag of them....don't tell mom.
LOL! I think she knows. I remember 'bummin' around with dad, too. We would stop at McDonald's which was a real treat back in those days. And then there was the Dairy Queen in Lansing. I can remember when the whole family (of five) could get cones for twenty-five cents total.
